The European Commission postponed a deadline to clear Intel Corp.'s (INTC) proposed $7.68 billion deal to buy security-software specialist McAfee Inc. (MFE) to Jan. 26 from Jan. 12, it said Thursday.

The commission said on its website that Intel has submitted "commitments," which are solutions to clear concerns that the commission, which has antitrust powers in the European Union, raises if it believes an operation could alter competition.
