MetLife Foundation Makes a US$250,000
Donation to the Disaster Area
Today, MetLife Foundation announced that it is making a
contribution of $250,000 (USD) to International Medical Corps’
Nepal Earthquake Fund, which is already at work on the ground
providing vital relief supplies to those in need, lifesaving
healthcare services to the survivors of the earthquake and critical
training to medical first responders.
President and CEO of MetLife Foundation, Dennis White said,
“Nepal has suffered a destructive earthquake which has impacted the
lives of millions of people. As we’ve seen countless times, natural
disasters can strike anyone, anywhere and at any time. The relief
organizations that step in to ease the suffering of victims of
natural disasters do great things, but they can’t do it alone.
MetLife believes that we can all make a difference, and I’m proud
that MetLife Foundation is providing some substantial and
meaningful support to ease the suffering of the people in the
earthquake-stricken area."
Since its inception 30 years ago, International Medical Corps’
mission has been consistent - relieve the suffering of those
impacted by natural disasters by delivering vitally needed health
care support. The Nepalese medical services are working tirelessly
but are struggling to cope with the volume of injured civilians,
and locally available medicines and supplies are expected to be
depleted quickly. In response, International Medical Corps is
gearing up to deploy additional doctors, nurses, logisticians and
others to join their team of experts already working in Nepal and
ramping up a supply pipeline for critical medical and other relief
supplies to quickly get aid to those who need it most.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the families of those who
perished in the earthquake that struck with such devastating force
on Saturday,” commented Christopher Townsend, President MetLife
Asia and MetLife Foundation Board Member. “MetLife has always been
committed to helping the communities it seeks to serve in times of
need and we will be doing all we can to support our customers and
colleagues and the people of Nepal that have been so tragically
affected by this natural disaster,” he added.
