Dollar General Seeks to Hire 10,000 Workers

Dow Jones News
Dollar General Corp. aims to bring 10,000 new employees on board
in the next month, a hiring push the discount retailer said is
needed to support of its continued expansion.
The Goodlettsville, Tenn., company said it would hold recruiting
events at 600 locations through Sept. 24, during which time job
seekers can meet with local-store and human-resources
personnel.
Dollar General, which operates roughly 13,000 retail stores,
said it is seeking to fill part-time and full-time positions,
including some store managers.
The move comes as retailers in other parts of the industry have
been struggling to attract shoppers to their brick-and-mortar
stores, with some such as department-store operator Macy's Inc. (M)
closing stores. Dollar chains, in contrast, have been gaining
customers among typically lower-income shoppers, who make frequent,
small purchases.
The company has planned to open an additional 900 new stores
during its current fiscal year and as of July 29 had completed 510
new locations.
