L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that its Electronic Systems group was awarded a seven-year contract to provide training solutions in support of the U.S. Air Force’s Warfighter Readiness & Training program following a recompetition process. L-3 initially won the Warfighter program in 1997 and will continue its prime contractor role under an initial task order valued at $23.5 million with a maximum ceiling value of $200 million.

The Warfighter program provides the Air Force with a wide range of research into advanced technologies to improve training effectiveness. L-3’s Link Simulation & Training division in Arlington, Texas, will serve as the prime contractor on the program.

“This award builds on L-3’s long-term involvement in the leading edge of research and development for warfighter training and represents a major recompete win for L-3,” said Steve Kantor, president of L-3 Electronic Systems. “The technology enhancements and training improvements developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory, in conjunction with the L-3 team, will ensure that advances in technologies provided to the U.S. Air Force will continue to be the best, most innovative in the world.”

“L-3’s research, engineering and development efforts will directly transition advanced technologies and improved training methods to the warfighter,” added Lenny Genna, president of L-3 Link Simulation & Training. “The research we undertake, with the support of our industry team, will positively impact U.S. Air Force and joint training doctrine, in addition to enhancing the design of future training systems.” Mr. Genna noted that as part of this Air Force program, the L-3 team will also provide evaluation and validation of training approaches, including methods, tools, instrumentation and enterprise infrastructure for learning and performance.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 38,000 people worldwide and is a leading provider of a broad range of communication and electronic systems and products used on military and commercial platforms. L-3 is also a prime contractor in aerospace systems. The company reported 2015 sales of $10.5 billion.
