ORIX Americas announced today that it has hired Barry Gold as a Managing Director and Joshua Herlands as an Associate Director. Both based in New York, Gold will oversee infrastructure investments, with an emphasis in the power, energy, transportation, water, environmental and social infrastructure sectors. Herlands will be responsible for originating and investing in infrastructure, real estate and public finance projects. Gold and Herlands will deploy the firm’s balance sheet using a full range of investment structures, including equity, debt, mezzanine and tax-advantaged equity, to meet ORIX’s goal of maximizing value for its shareholders, clients and business partners.

“As one of the most exciting investment asset classes, adding the unmatched infrastructure investing experience of Barry and Josh is not only a great expansion opportunity for the company, but is also extremely complementary to our existing businesses,” said Andrew Garvey, Managing Director and Head of ORIX Municipal Finance. “We believe our highly flexible and substantial capital resources will be a major competitive advantage in the infrastructure space.”

Gold has 30 years of transaction and investment experience. Prior to joining ORIX Americas, he was a Senior Advisor to an energy infrastructure fund and a global strategic advisory firm, and was also the Co-Founder and Co-Head of Carlyle Infrastructure Partners, a $1.1 billion global infrastructure private equity fund. He has executed nearly $40 billion in transaction values and financial deals.

Gold holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from New York University, where he also served as an Adjunct Professor of Finance. He is the Associate Editor of The Journal of Structured Finance and serves on a number of boards, including the Grand Teton National Park Foundation and the Storm Trysail Foundation.

Herlands, who has nearly 10 years of finance and legal experience, joins ORIX Municipal Finance after having spent three years with Captona Partners. While there, he was involved in equity investments within the renewable energy sector. He previously worked in energy project development and venture finance, as well as with the power and project finance groups at Lehman Brothers Inc.

Herlands earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in International Policy Studies at Stanford University and obtained his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
