Hertz Global Holdings Inc. on Tuesday named Jeff Foland, United
Continental Holdings Inc .'s chief marketing and strategy officer,
as the global car-rental company's chief revenue officer, effective
later this month.
The move reunites Mr. Foland with John Tague, who now is the
chief executive of Hertz, a Naples, Fla.,-based company that
operates the Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly rental brands in
140 countries. Mr. Tague, who was United's president before the
airline merged with Continental in 2010, recruited Mr. Foland to
United in 2005.
Mr. Foland went on to shake up United's marketing team and
helped with its commercial transformation, ending up as executive
vice president with responsibility for marketing, loyalty, digital
channels and strategy. He joined the airline from marketing
consultants ZS Associates.
"We appreciate Jeff's contributions and leadership at United and
wish him well," the Chicago-based airline, the world's
second-largest by traffic, said Tuesday.
Mr. Foland, whose official Hertz title will be senior executive
vice president and chief revenue officer, will oversee global
car-rental marketing strategies, sales, pricing and revenue
functions, Hertz said.
"It's not often an executive has the chance to develop the
long-term, global growth potential of iconic brands like Hertz,
Dollar and Thrifty, and I look forward to partnering with John
Tague and the rest of the Hertz team on this exciting journey," Mr.
Foland said in a statement.
Hertz named Mr. Tague CEO in November, after receiving the
blessing of activist investor Carl Icahn. That was after a stint as
chief executive of Greatwide Logistics Services LLC. In a statement
Tuesday, Mr. Tague said he is pleased Mr. Foland has decided to
join Hertz "to optimize our many current and untapped revenue
opportunities."
With Mr. Foland departing, United has made some executive
changes. Jim Compton, the vice chairman and chief revenue officer,
will retake responsibility for marketing, loyalty and digital.
Brett Hart, the executive vice president and general counsel, will
assume responsibility for customer care and customer experience.
John Rainey, United's chief financial officer, will take on
strategy.
Greg Hart, the chief operations officer, will report directly to
Jeff Smisek, United's CEO, instead of to Mr. Compton. Tom O'Toole,
senior vice president of marketing and loyalty, will become the
chief marketing officer.
