Professor Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, winner of the 1997 Nobel Prize in
physics, inspired more than 1,200 students and faculty at Brno
University of Technology (BUT) in the Czech Republic today as part of Honeywell's
(NYSE: HON) global Honeywell Initiative for Science &
Engineering (HISE).
The program, sponsored by Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the
company's corporate citizenship initiative, aims to inspire
students to pursue careers in science and engineering and achieve
their goals. HISE has benefited thousands of science, technology,
engineering and math (STEM) students and teachers around the
globe.
Professor Cohen-Tannoudji, who received the Nobel Prize for
cooling lasers and trapping atoms, is among 25 Nobel laureates that
Honeywell has sponsored at universities worldwide since 2006.
The event marks the third time BUT hosted an HISE event and the
tenth time the program has been delivered to a university in the
Czech Republic.
"You have lots of choices as you make your way in the world,"
Cohen-Tannoudji said to the students who were eager for advice on
how to jump-start their careers after graduation. "Look beyond what
you are doing today, focus on going farther than what you may dream
is possible, and you will succeed."

Since 2006, Honeywell has brought the HISE program to top
universities in China, the
Czech Republic, India, Malaysia, Mexico and Romania. The initiative includes a series of
lectures by Nobel laureates, career discussions with Honeywell's
top engineers, and informal discussions between the laureates and
students. Honeywell closely cooperates with Czech technical
universities with programs such as engineering lectures,
collaborative projects, student events, academic thesis
opportunities and internships.
Honeywell Hometown Solutions supports STEM education in the
Czech Republic by inviting local
middle school science and math teachers to attend the Honeywell
Educators at Space Academy and the Honeywell Green Boot Camp in
the United States each year.
Additionally, middle school Czech students compete in the global
Student Automotive Design Challenge (SADC), an annual co-sponsored
program between Honeywell and SAE International that challenges
teams of students to research, design, test and build electric and
gear-driven toy cars.
Cohen-Tannoudji is Professor of Atomic and Molecular Physics at
the Collège de France in
Paris. He has received numerous
awards, including the Thomas Young Medal and Prize of the Institute
of Physics, the Lilienfeld Prize of the American Physical Society,
the Charles Townes Award of the
Optical Society of America, the Harvey Prize in Science and
Technology of the Technion Israël Institute of Technology, the
Quantum Electronics Prize of the European Physical Society, and the
Gold Medal of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique.
