Retailer offers major deals on eco-friendly appliances

Earth Day on April 22 provides an opportunity to evaluate one’s eco-footprint, and hhgregg (NYSE: HGG) – a leading appliance, electronics and furniture retailer – is celebrating with money-saving deals on the latest energy efficient appliances. According to the Better Appliances report by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and the Appliance Standards Awareness Project (ASAP), newer appliances are not only more performance efficient, they include a large number of new features offering energy and utility efficiency to save families money over time while older models increase utility bills.

“Many Americans do not realize that upgrading major appliances results in significant energy efficiencies and can save families hundreds of dollars each year on their bills,” explained Dennis May, CEO of hhgregg. “In fact, clothes washers built in 2003 are significantly less efficient than newer models. By upgrading to an Energy Star product, families can save on average $230 a year.”

Now through April 25, hhgregg is making it easier than ever to “go green” with up to 25 percent off of major appliances plus an additional 5 percent off appliances, furniture and bedding $497 and up with an hhgregg card. Thanks to hhgregg’s Laundry Savings Event, not only are all washers and dryers on sale, but customers have a chance to save an extra $50, $100 or $200 on laundry pair purchases. For those who are unsure of the right eco products for their homes, hhgregg’s award-winning sales team is at the ready to explain the options and long-term savings.

Time to upgrade? Four questions to ask about large appliances:

  • Is the dishwasher in your home 10 years old? Families using a dishwasher made before 1994 are paying an additional $35 per year on utility bills and using 1,600 more gallons of water on average over the product’s lifetime compared to more recent models. By replacing these older products with an Energy Star certified model, consumers could save enough money to pay for detergent all year.*
  • Did you buy your clothes washer before 2003? Washers are the second largest water user in the home and the average American family washes about 300 loads of laundry each year. Washers built before 2003 are significantly less efficient than newer models. By upgrading to an Energy Star product, consumers can save on average $230 a year.*
  • Is your clothes dryer Energy Star certified? If all clothes dryers sold in the US were Energy Star certified, Americans could save $1.5 billion each year in utility costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to more than 2 million vehicles.*
  • New refrigerator on your list? When it comes to residential refrigerators and freezers, the Department of Energy’s energy conservation standards implemented in 2014 will save approximately 5.6 quads of energy and result in approximately $97 billion in energy bill savings for products shipped from 2014-2043. The standard will also avoid about 295 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of about 57.8 million automobiles.**

“hhgregg understands that people care about the environment and are looking for realistic ways to reduce their carbon-footprint while spending within their means, which is why we are excited to offer these great deals on the latest and greatest energy efficient appliances to celebrate Earth Day,” May continued. “Aside from saving shoppers up to hundreds of dollars per year in water and energy bills, our top-of-the-line Energy Star appliances have the ability to prevent billions of pounds of annual greenhouse gas emissions.”
