International stocks trading in New York were mixed on
Wednesday. The Bank of New York index of American depositary
receipts fell 0.06% to 157.55. The European index decreased 0.07%
to 154.95, the Asian index improved 0.24% to 152.43, the Latin
American index fell 1% to 309.10 and the emerging markets index
decreased 0.08% to 303.77. Among the companies with shares that
actively traded was GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK, GSK.LN).
GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK, GSK.LN) downgraded its earnings
outlook for the full year, as its second-quarter profits were hit
by weak respiratory-drug sales in the U.S., currency moves and a
continuing bribery investigation in China. Shares fell 6% to
$50.04.
ABB Ltd. (ABB, ABBN.VX, ABB.SK) reported weaker-than-expected
second-quarter earnings as the Swiss engineering giant's
performance was weighed down by its power systems division.
However, total orders were up 13.47% in the quarter to $10.58
billion. Shares rose 1.5% to $23.79.
