For the fourth consecutive year, a Corning optical solution
takes home DCS Award
CORNING, N.Y., MAY 25, 2016 - Corning
Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced that its EDGE8(TM) solution
recently received "Data Center Cabling Product of the Year" honors
at the 2016 Datacentre Solutions Awards in London.
Corning's EDGE8 solution is the industry's first
modular, tip-to-tip optical cabling system to feature an
eight-fiber (Base-8) cabling design that maximizes per-rack-unit
density for better network scalability and improved link
performance.
"Extensive discussions with all of the major
transceiver, switch, server, and storage vendors led us to realize
that a Base-8 solution would provide a very high return on
investment for 40 to 400G applications that are transceiver
independent without costly and disruptive upgrades," said Tony
Robinson, Enterprise Vertical Marketing manager EMEA, Corning
Optical Communications. "A successful global adoption and
significant industry awards within EDGE8 solution's first year
validate our commitment to innovate highly efficient,
forward-looking infrastructures with favorable total costs of
ownership for our customers."
Corning's leading market position in optical
communications, along with its core technologies and manufacturing
platforms, make it well positioned to meet increasing adoption of
cloud computing and growing demand for streaming video. Data
centers and storage area networks (SANs) are migrating to faster
transmission speeds to find and send data back to consumers as
quickly as possible. Corning's EDGE8 solution is the most
future-ready data center connectivity solution available for
simple, efficient, and cost-effective migration to transmission
speeds up to 400 gigabits per second.
"The Datacentre Solutions Awards recognize the
product designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and providers
operating in the data center field and are voted for by the readers
of our wide range of print and online publications," said Jason
Holloway, director of IT Publishing, Angel Business Communications,
organizers of the DCS Awards. "All finalists did well in making the
shortlist, but Corning Optical Communications was the clear winner
in its category."
"I am immensely proud that our customers, channel
allies, and IT industry peers have once again taken the time to
recognize Corning's achievements," Robinson said. "Along with my
technical and commercial colleagues, we would like to extend our
personal thanks and gratitude to each and every one."
The "Data Center Cabling Product of the Year"
category included a range of leading data center cabling
technologies. Products were evaluated on their ability to
demonstrate competitive advantage and a clear return on investment
for users. The awards were announced on May 12.
