Corning Named Top Vendor of Distributed Antenna Systems by ABI Research
November 05 2015 - 4:30PM
HICKORY, N.C. - Corning
Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced it has been ranked the No.
1 distributed antenna systems (DAS) vendor by ABI Research in their
latest Competitive Assessment report for the in-building wireless
market.
Corning earned this recognition for its
Corning®
ONE(TM) wireless
platform, the first all-optical solution to converge DAS, Wi-Fi and
small cell, and for its MobileAccess2000 DAS.
ABI Research considered two factors in its
rankings: (1) innovation, which includes advanced features such as
small cell and heterogeneous network support, and total cost of
ownership; and (2) implementation, which looks at market
penetration across regions and verticals.
"Corning continues to be a key player in the DAS
industry with more than 6,000 deployments, including some of the
largest public venues in the United States," said Nick Marshall,
research director, ABI Research. "Corning's DAS solutions have been
successfully deployed in more than 25 countries and have been
approved by more than 50 wireless operators around the world."
Corning's DAS technology is instrumental in
enabling wireless coverage and capacity at more than 50 sports
venues and arenas across the country, including five Super Bowl
stadiums. Most recently, Texas A&M University chose the Corning
ONE wireless platform to enable best-in-class fan experience at its
Kyle Field, one of the largest stadiums in the U.S. On Oct. 17,
Texas A&M fans broke a collegiate record for usage with 5.7
terabytes of data over Wi-Fi.
Taking the next step in innovation, Corning
recently launched its ONE mid-power remote unit (MRU). The 6-band
remote includes modular support for all bands; easy setup, upgrades
and commissioning; and improved scalability for adding services or
bands, all in a smaller form factor that requires less power. The
MRU can also be combined with the low-power ONE Remote Access Unit
(RAU) for cost-optimized coverage and capacity in any type of
venue.
"We're pleased to be recognized for the second
time by ABI Research for the innovative solutions we offer carriers
and customers across nearly every segment of the market," said Mike
O'Day, vice president, Wireless Networks, Corning. "It demonstrates
Corning's unique ability to develop products that are valued by the
industry for innovation, and by our customers for world-class
service and support. It's this balance that sets us apart from our
competition."
