STOCKHOLM--Electrolux AB (ELUX-B.SK) said Monday it isn't in settlement discussions with the U.S. Department of Justice, as it continues its antitrust trial to determine whether it can proceed with a proposed $3.3 billion deal to buy General Electric's (GE) appliance business.

Earlier this year the DOJ filed a complaint with the Federal Court seeking to stop the deal with the U.S. firm, arguing it would reduce competition and lead to higher prices.

Electrolux has contested the argument. In a press release on Monday titled "Electrolux Comments on Speculations on Settlement" the appliance maker said it remains confident of the competitive merits of the deal and its favorable impact on consumers. It made no further reference to the speculation.

"Occasionally, disputes like this one are resolved by settlement," the company said. "While Electrolux may be willing to consider a reasonable settlement with DOJ, Electrolux is currently not in settlement discussions with DOJ."

The Swedish company said it can't rule out that settlement talks may arise, but as the outcome of any potential discussions is uncertain, it doesn't plan to make any further comments on whether discussions have been or will be initiated until it is relevant to do so.
