Alstom SA (ALO.FR) is in talks with General Electric Co. (GE)
for the sale of the French engineering firm's energy business,
French newspaper Le Figaro reports Thursday without citing
sources.
According to the report, Alstom could sell its offshore wind
farms, coal and gas turbines units, which account for about 70% of
the group's revenue of more than 20 billion euros ($27.61
billion).
Bloomberg reported Wednesday that General Electric was in talks
to take over the entire French company.
An Alstom spokeswoman declined to comment on the talks beyond
the company's previous statement. Alstom said earlier Thursday in a
statement: "In response to recent speculation in the economic
press, Alstom is not informed of any potential public tender offer
for the shares of the company. The group constantly reviews the
strategic options of its businesses."
