PITTSBURGH, April 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Federated Investors, Inc. (NYSE: FII), one of the nation's largest investment managers, today announced that the Federated High Yield Trust (FHYTX) received a Lipper Fund Award for its category-leading performance.  The Service Shares of the fund earned the award based on Lipper's calculation of consistent five-year risk-adjusted performance ending Dec. 31, 2014.

Federated High Yield Trust earned the Lipper Fund Award in the High Yield Funds classification and ranked best out of 121 portfolios and 414 funds for the five-year period.  Federated High Yield Trust seeks to provide a high level of current income and capital appreciation by investing primarily in high-yield, lower-rated corporate bonds.  The fund seeks to enhance returns by augmenting its portfolio of high-yield bonds with an opportunistic allocation of up to 20 percent in public stocks of high-yield companies. When market conditions warrant, the equity allocation has the potential to generate higher returns, particularly in low-rate, low-yield environments.  Portfolio managers Mark Durbiano and Gene Neavin bring a combined 45 years of experience to the fund.

"We appreciate Lipper's recognition of the fund's excellent five-year performance record and our talented investment professionals," said John B. Fisher, president and chief executive officer, Federated Advisory Companies.  "We also call attention to the fund's top-decile performance on a one-, three- and 10-year basis in this same peer universe."
