DEARBORN, Mich.--Ford Motor Co. (F) employees who work at the
auto maker's headquarters faced a difficult commute Friday after a
bridge collapse closed part of a major freeway in the area.
A pedestrian bridge spanning the M-39 freeway--also known as the
Southfield Freeway--collapsed during the early-morning hours,
closing part of the roadway in both directions. Television reports
say only one person suffered minor injuries.
The freeway is a major north-south artery used by Ford workers
to get to the auto maker's headquarters located less than a mile
from the collapse site.
Television reports show traffic backups in several directions as
motorists look to route themselves around the area.
