Vote represents important milestone toward passage of legislation built via strong coalition of diverse stakeholders

Exelon Generation and ComEd today applauded the Illinois House Energy Committee’s passage of the Future Energy Jobs Bill, noting that the legislation will continue to be refined by policymakers as they move toward the close of veto session in early December.

The current bill creates significant benefits for Illinois consumers, saving and creating tens of thousands of jobs, doubling energy efficiency programs to create $4 billion in energy savings, accelerating the development of renewable energy and providing over $1 billion in low-income programs. The bill also avoids substantial energy cost increases that would result from the loss of at-risk nuclear plants in Illinois.

“We’re grateful to members of the House Energy Committee for their thoughtful consideration and support for the Future Energy Jobs Bill,” said Joe Dominguez, Exelon’s executive vice president, Governmental and Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy. “This legislation will stimulate clean energy investment in Illinois and extend billions of dollars in economic benefits to consumers across the state. We look forward to continuing the conversation with all stakeholders as the bill is refined and moves forward.”

“We’re encouraged by this milestone, which brings us closer to achieving a more secure, clean and affordable energy future for our customers,” said Fidel Marquez, senior vice president, government and external affairs, ComEd. “We have said from the beginning that this is about protecting the environment, preserving and creating good jobs, benefiting our economy and laying the foundation for a next-generation energy grid that benefits consumers. We will continue to work with and respond to stakeholders to achieve passage of this important legislation.”
