ComEd’s Smart Ideas offerings are helping to provide relief on
seasonal energy bills for ComEd customers.
The annual energy supply rates decreased this month and are
saving customers, who purchase their electricity from ComEd,
approximately $4 off their average monthly bills through May of
next year. Energy supply rates are what customers pay for the
electricity they consume. ComEd passes along the cost of energy
supply to customers without profit or mark-up. In addition, ComEd’s
2016 delivery rate decrease, which goes through the end of December
of this year, means residential customers are currently paying
about $1 less per month for their monthly delivery costs compared
to 2015. The delivery charge is what it costs to transport
electricity from the transmission system to homes and
businesses.
“Residential energy supply charges are updated annually in June.
The recent decrease in supply costs, coupled with taking advantage
of one or more of our energy efficiency plans, offers ComEd
customers even more opportunities to achieve savings on their
electric bills this summer,” said Val Jensen, senior vice president
of Customer Operations, ComEd.
ComEd’s Smart Ideas Energy Efficiency Program® is one of the
largest efficiency programs in the nation and offers a suite of
solutions to home, apartment and business owners. The program
launched in 2008 and has produced more than $1.5 billion in savings
on customer’s electric bills.
Customers with smart meters also can take advantage of programs
like Peak Time Savings, in which program participants who
voluntarily reduce energy usage during the Peak Time Savings hours
will earn credits that appear in the form of dollars off on their
next electric bills. And ComEd is partnering with Nest® to offer
customer incentives of up to $40 for ComEd customers who enroll in
Nest’s Rush Hour Rewards™ program. This smart thermostat program
allows ComEd to reduce electricity demand on the hottest days of
the summer through remote adjustment of thermostat settings.
