More than 1,000 employees will donate 3,000 volunteer hours in 10th celebration of National Volunteer Week

Employees from across PECO are advancing our region and celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 10-16) by participating in more than 40 employee-led service projects across southeastern Pennsylvania. These projects include renewing green spaces, collecting clothing for local low-income children and families, and helping rebuild homes.

“We do more than provide safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy for our customers – our employees actively support the communities where they live and work every day,” said Craig Adams, PECO president and CEO. “We are proud to help so many local nonprofit organizations achieve their goals and make our communities a better place for our customers.”

National Volunteer Week is an annual, nationwide celebration of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. For the 10th consecutive year, PECO employees are organizing community service projects for more than 1,000 employees, family members and friends to participate in throughout April. Examples of PECO’s National Volunteer Week projects include:

  • April 11 (Philadelphia) – Planting trees to help restore wildlife habitats as part of the Philadelphia Zoo’s Fairmount Park Habitat Restoration Project
  • April 12 (Doylestown, Pa.) – Sprucing up Central Park’s baseball field and assisting with local trail cleanup
  • April 12 (Chadds Ford, Pa.) Beautifying the grounds of the Brandywine River Museum by removing invasive plants and supporting other landscaping efforts
  • April 13 (Norristown, Pa.) – Performing general maintenance at Elmwood Park Zoo and preparing for spring visitors
  • April 14 (West Conshohocken, Pa.) – Sorting and cleaning hundreds of toys, books and other items for local low-income children with Cradles to Crayons
  • April 15 (West Chester, Pa.) – Providing facility cleanup for the Chester County SPCA and assisting with cleaning animal cages and care

PECO and its parent company Exelon recognize National Volunteer Week by empowering employees to design their service projects and recruit others to participate. This year, employees across Exelon will participate in more than 160 community service projects in April. Projects will focus on education, environmental stewardship, diversity and inclusion, and community enrichment.

In addition to PECO, National Volunteer Week will include employee-led service projects from across the Exelon family of companies including: ComEd in Illinois, Constellation and BGE in Maryland, and Exelon Generation and Exelon Business Services Company in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas.

Following the merger of Exelon with Pepco Holdings on March 23, 2016, employees of the Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Pepco utilities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and New Jersey can look forward to contributing to Exelon’s National Volunteer Week efforts starting next year.
