Residential energy supply customers can nominate their favorite local project or cause for funding

Constellation today named 49 new grant recipients through its Community Champions program, donating more than $22,000 to community organizations focused on education, youth development and environmental projects. Constellation’s Community Champions allows the company’s residential electricity and natural gas supply customers to nominate a local project or cause for grant funding. The next deadline for grant submissions is September 15, 2015.

“Constellation is proud to help our residential customers support educational and environmental initiatives in their communities,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Since the program’s launch in 2013, Constellation’s Community Champions program has awarded over $125,000 in funding to over 270 worthy projects nominated by our customers.”

Constellation customer Lawrence Segel will use his $500 Community Champions grant to support the Theatre Company of Saugus’s fifth annual summer Youth Theatre Workshop in Saugus, Mass. Through the workshop, students learn about goal- setting, responsibility, cooperation, and collaboration with others.

“Constellation’s grant will help us ensure that we have a successful workshop this summer,” Segel said. “Over the course of two weeks, over 20 kids will learn all aspects of putting on a musical theater show, concluding with three performances. We’ll be able to put on a better show and provide a better overall experience for the kids.”

Constellation customer Raymond Yeung of Denton, Texas, will use a $500 Community Champions grant to support the United through H.O.P.E. Allstars program. Through the program, children with disabilities practice the social skills required to be more involved with their peers, while learning how to build self-confidence, self-esteem, and a willingness "to try." The grant will be used to purchase board games, outdoor play equipment, age appropriate toys, and other materials.

“We thank Constellation for supporting organizations like United through H.O.P.E.,” Yeung said. “Programs like United through H.O.P.E. Allstars have an important role in our community, assisting children with social challenges to become successful.”

Constellation customer Nancy Young will use her $500 grant to create a Teen Arts Council through the Shawnee Hills Art Council in Union County, Ill. The funding will supply Union County's youth with the tools to express themselves through contemporary art while providing a safe place for them to gather.

“Through our Teen Arts Council, Union County teens will receive leadership training to create and manage their own events,” Young said. "This is their stage to perfect their skills or simply become more involved with the arts.”
