More than 61,000 customers restored since the start of yesterday’s series of storms and tornadoes

ComEd has restored power to 99 percent of the more than 61,000 customers that were affected by Thursday’s fast-moving storms, which produced hail, heavy rains and high winds, including multiple tornadoes that touched down in several communities in western Illinois. The most significant damage was realized in a roughly 50-mile path from Ogle County to Winnebago County.

More than 300 ComEd crews have worked throughout the night Thursday and on Friday to safely and efficiently restore service to the remainder of the storm-impacted customers. We estimate that since the start of the storm on Thursday evening, almost 61,200 customers have been affected by the severe weather, of which approximately 400 remain out of service.

“Our number one priority is restoring power to every customer as quickly and safely as possible,” said Terence R. Donnelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer for ComEd. “Our thoughts are with those in the areas so profoundly impacted by this destructive storm. We are working with local officials in these areas to ensure everyone’s safety and are doing all we can to provide additional resources to support them.”

ComEd has dispatched its Mobile Operations Command Center to Winnebago County to support workers and engineers working to restore severely damaged infrastructure and also provided warming buses to the heavily-damaged town of Fairdale. ComEd parent company Exelon has also committed $25,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts in Illinois.

ComEd urges customers to contact the utility immediately if they are experiencing a power outage. Customers can text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report their outage and receive restoration information. ComEd also offers a mobile app for iPhone and Android® smart phones that gives customers the ability to report power outages and manage their accounts.
