SÃO PAULO--Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer SA delivered more planes and reported record-high backlog in the second quarter, as expectations for the recovery of global economic activity increased demand.

Embraer on Wednesday said it delivered 60 jets in the period, up from 58 planes in the year-earlier quarter. Embraer delivered 27 aircraft to commercial aviation and 33 executive jets. By comparison, Embraer delivered 29 aircraft to commercial aviation and 29 executive jets in the prior-year period.

The backlog of firm orders totaled $22.9 billion at the end of the second quarter, up from $18.1 billion in the year-earlier period, and up from $20.4 billion at the end of the first quarter.

The backlog in the second quarter reached the highest level in company's history, Embraer said.
