Bid leaders hail Edison's support for LA 2024’s
sustainable vision
LA 2024 today announced Edison International’s support that
reinforces the Olympic and Paralympic bid’s commitment to staging
an innovative, energy efficient and environmentally friendly Games
and that provides experience and support to bring the Games back to
the USA for the first time in 28 years. Edison International,
headquartered in Southern California, is a leading energy company
that, through its subsidiaries, including the Southern California
Edison utility, distributes electricity and energy services and
technologies. Edison International has contributed to LA 2024 and
will collaborate with the Los Angeles Department of Water and
Power, other utilities in the region and LA 2024 to help craft a
Games plan that relies on energy that is clean, sustainable and
reliable.
LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: “We are very pleased to
work with Edison International and other local utilities
to plan a sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games for
2024. With no permanent construction required to host the
Games and working with experienced utility leaders at Edison
International and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power,
environmental protection and conservation will be at the forefront
of our planning and our culture as we invite the world to ‘Follow
the Sun’ to a New Games for a New Era.”
Edison International President and Chief Executive Officer Pedro
Pizarro said: "As a proud member of the Southern California
community, Edison International is helping to create a clean future
for us all. Sustainability is a key pillar of both LA 2024 and the
IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020 strategic roadmap for the future, and we
are pleased to support LA 2024 to achieve their Olympic and
Paralympic Games energy plan."
As one of the region’s largest and diverse employers with
approximately 12,500 employees across Southern California, Edison
International has a committed and very active network of employee
and retiree volunteers who are vitally connected to the communities
in which they live and work. The company will look to engage this
network of active employees and retirees, as well as community and
business leaders, to support the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games,
as it did during the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.
