SoCore Energy celebrates the completion of a
vast solar array at FedEx Ground facility
SoCore Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Edison International
(NYSE: EIX), one of the nation’s largest utility holding companies,
has completed its largest commercial rooftop installation at the
FedEx Ground hub in Hagerstown, Maryland. The 2.7 megawatt (MW)
system features more than 8,000 solar panels and produces enough
solar power to prevent over 5 million pounds of carbon dioxide from
traditional electricity generation sources from entering the
environment annually.

“This is truly an exciting day for SoCore,” said SoCore
President Pete Kadens. “I’m proud of our engineers, project
managers and account managers for working tirelessly to deliver
this impressive project to a fantastic client like FedEx
Ground.”
The 590,000-square-foot FedEx Ground hub, which recently
completed a 150,000-square-foot expansion, employs more than 900
people.
On Friday, April 10, SoCore and FedEx Ground hosted a solar
dedication ceremony to celebrate the installation, during which
executives from both companies flipped a celebratory switch,
officially activating the solar installation.
“This is an impressive, state-of-the-art solar installation,
which will benefit FedEx and its customers, the Hagerstown
community and the State of Maryland,” said Rhone Resch, president
and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). “We
congratulate SoCore for bringing this terrific project online and
for being a leading champion of clean, reliable and affordable
solar energy. According to our projections, this project will help
Maryland achieve a record year for solar growth in 2015.”
Friday’s festivities also included scissor lift tours, providing
guests with the unique opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of the
solar installation.
FedEx Ground hosts the Maryland hub’s solar array, and SoCore
owns, operates and maintains the system. This operating model has
proven to be successful for the two companies at locations across
the country, including a 1.4 MW rooftop installation at the FedEx
Ground hub in Dallas, Texas.
