BOGOTA--Leftist rebels bombed Colombia's Cano Limon oil pipeline
Tuesday, an official said, marking the second attack on the
pipeline in less than a week.
The pipeline has a capacity to pump more than 200,000 barrels a
day but has averaged closer to 70,000 barrels a day in recent
years. The official from state oil company Ecopetrol SA (EC,
ECOPETROL.BO, ECP.T), which owns the pipeline, said pumping has
been halted until repairs can be done. California-based Occidental
Petroleum Corp. (OXY) also uses the pipeline.
The same pipeline was bombed Thursday in the same Norte de
Santander region of northern Colombia. Repairs for Thursday's blast
were completed Sunday, when pumping resumed.
It isn't clear which rebel group is to blame for the latest
attack, but the Thursday bombing was blamed on the ELN, Colombia's
second-largest rebel group.
Pipeline attacks declined in late 2012, which helped Colombia
ramp up overall oil production.
