In Latin America, Dow continues to address the world’s most
pressing sustainability challenges, leveraging public-private
partnership to help transition to a more sustainable planet
As global populations continue to rise, The Dow Chemical Company
(NYSE: Dow) is innovating at the forefront of global sustainability
challenges – leveraging its science and technology expertise,
together with public-private partnerships to enable a transition to
a more sustainable planet and society. The Company’s recently
announced partnership with AgroLAC – a funding platform focused on
preserving and maximizing natural resources in the resource-rich
area of Latin America and the Caribbean by advancing sustainable
agriculture solutions – demonstrates Dow’s firm commitment to
sustainability and its expanding leadership in important areas of
focus across the food value chain, from sustainable agriculture to
packaging.
“With its rich natural resources, Latin America represents a
source of tremendous potential for food-production and export,”
said Dow’s Latin America President Pedro Suarez. “With a
population that is expected to reach more than 9 billion by
2050, harnessing this potential in a sustainable way will require
continued, thoughtful work and partnership across the Latin America
agricultural industry.”
Through its operations in the region as well as its innovative
technologies and solutions, Dow has demonstrated its leadership in
influencing sustainable practices across the food value chain.
Together with these practices and its science-based solutions, Dow
is helping reverse troubling environmental trends that pose a
long-term threat to natural resources in the region.
“At Dow AgroSciences, we recognize the role farmers and ranchers
play in the global food value chain – and we are collaborating with
partners across the value chain to support sustainable practices
and solutions that will best position us to feed our growing
world,” said Tim Hassinger, Dow AgroSciences’ president and chief
executive officer. Hassinger continued, “To achieve this, we are
developing technologies with the goal of enabling farmers to expand
food production, all while utilizing fewer of our limited natural
resources.”
Dow’s partnership with organizations such as the Brazilian
Roundtable on Sustainable Livestock, as an example, has provided
local farmers and ranchers with access to agricultural technologies
and practices that are helping to increase agricultural
productivity. In fact, this partnership helped to increase
livestock yield per hectare on six model farms by eliminating weeds
and promoting more nutritious grazing grasses. This is but one
illustration of work already underway in Latin America.
Through the partnership with AgroLAC, Dow joins forces with
thought leaders from across agriculture and business sectors. As
part of the Company’s 2025 Sustainability Goals, collaborations are
a key element to advancing sustainability-focused efforts already
underway, while working together to expand these efforts and
influence the sustainable production and consumption of food. From
solutions for increasing yield, to those helping to reduce nearly
40 percent of wasted food, Dow is leading the blueprint for
collaboration and paving the path toward a more sustainable planet
and society.
