Walt Disney Co. said its board elected finance and investment industry veteran Maria Elena Lagomasino as an independent director starting in December.

Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Robert A. Iger said that Ms. Lagomasino "also has a wealth of experience with, and keen understanding of, global consumer brands."

Ms. Lagomasino chief executive and managing partner of financial advisory firm WE Family Offices. Lagomasino will stand for election by shareholders at Disney's next annual meeting, which is typically held in March. She previously held senior positions at Citibank, Chase Manhattan Private Bank and J.P. Morgan Private Bank. She currently serves on the boards of Coca-Cola Co. and Avon Products Inc.

Disney's board currently has 10 members.
