ATLANTA, Oct. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Volunteers from
Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and parents, teachers and staff from
KIPP STRIVE Primary School, as well as local community members,
came together on Saturday to build a KaBOOM! playground in one day
as part of Hands on Atlanta Day.
"Delta is proud to call Atlanta
home, and I am proud of our employees for their ongoing commitment
to support Hands On Atlanta Day and work alongside organizations
like KaBOOM! and KIPP STRIVE Primary School," said Tad Hutcheson, Vice President of Community
Affairs for Delta. "At Delta, we proactively address overall
well-being at the core, and KaBOOM! elevates our mission of
investing in global health and wellness efforts in the communities
where we live, work and serve."
The new playground will offer a safe and accessible place to
play for more than 550 students at KIPP STRIVE Primary School,
which is located on the Atlanta BeltLine. KIPP scholars from the
classes of 2029 and 2030, their college graduation dates, were
engaged from inception, tasked with drawing the design for their
ideal playground. The new playground is exclusively designed from
these drawings.
Volunteers mixed 20,000 pounds of concrete, shoveled mulch,
painted art work and assembled a new playground structure in just
six hours as part of the one-day build.
At the ribbon cutting, Hutcheson presented a check to KIPP
STRIVE Primary School for $10,000,
which will assist the organization with long-term maintenance of
the playground and support the programs it provides.
The playground marks Delta's ninth playground build in
partnership with KaBOOM! and the airline's second build in
Atlanta.
A video highlighting the build and profiling a Delta employee
whose daughter attends KIPP STRIVE Primary School is available on
the news hub.
