Gunmen Attack Gas Pipeline in Saudi Arabia -- Aramco Source
September 03 2014 - 1:08AM
Dow Jones News
An attack by unidentified gunmen caused a small fire on a gas
pipeline in Saudi Arabia's oil-rich Eastern Province, an official
at state-owned Saudi Aramco said Tuesday.
The pipeline has been repaired and the incident had no effect on
oil and gas production, the person said, but it marks the first
reported attack on energy infrastructure within the kingdom since
2006.
The world depends on Saudi oil, which accounts for about 10% of
global supply and takes pride in the security of its energy
facilities. Previous incidents, including the foiled attack on the
vast Abqaiq oil-processing facility by al-Qaeda in 2006 and a
cyber-security breach at Aramco in 2012, have raised concerns about
energy security.
