Handbag retailer Coach Inc. (COH) on Thursday said it named a
new head of its Stuart Weitzman division, bringing in Wendy Kahn
from Valentino Fashion Group and marking the latest management
change as the company continues reshape itself.
Ms. Kahn will take the helm Sept. 13, replacing Wayne Kulkin.
Mr. Kulkin, who was named CEO of Stuart Weitzman in 2013, will
become a consultant to the company, Coach said. after his
departure.
The appointment of Ms. Kahn to CEO of the Stuart Weitzman unit
comes as Coach CEO Victor Luis continues to turn the retailer
around. The acquisition of the high-end Stuart Weitzman shoe line
last year was an effort to reinvigorate and broaden the brand, and
Mr. Luis has been adding more stylish designs, upgrading stores and
scaling back promotions. He has recently announced job cuts and
management shuffles that include the chief financial officer's
departure last month.
There have been signs that the changes are starting to pay off:
Coach in its latest quarter said its namesake brand returned to
growth in North America after reporting quarterly sales declines
for about three years. Stuart Weitzman brought in $79 million
during the most recent period, and Mr. Luis has emphasized the
brand's growth potential.
Ms. Kahn joined Italian fashion house Valentino in 2004 and has
served as the head of its U.S. division since 2008. Previous to
Valentino, she worked at Michael Kors and at the French clothing
line Celine.
