HONG KONG--Citigroup Inc. (C) has appointed Simon Yuan as investment banking head of China Financial Institutional Group, according to an internal memo seen by The Wall Street Journal Friday.

Before joining the U.S. bank, Mr. Yuan was co-head of Asia FIG at Swiss bank Credit Suisse Group. Prior to that, he worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and HSBC Holdings Plc, in Hong Kong and Beijing.

Mr. Yuan will be based in Hong Kong.
