Morgan Stanley is exploring a move to Hudson Yards, the vast development going up on Manhattan's West Side, according to people familiar with the matter.

The bank is considering the purchase of the remaining 2 million square feet at 50 Hudson Yards, the planned tower where money manager BlackRock Inc. is also expected to move its headquarters, the people said.

"We routinely review potential options for upgrading our workspaces," a spokeswoman for the bank said. "As we consider plans to continue to upgrade our current office space, we are also in the very early stages of evaluating potential alternatives. We anticipate a lengthy timeline before any decisions are made."

The 2.9 million square foot tower at 50 Hudson Yards is part of a massive mixed-use development under construction by Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group.
