LONDON--Barclays PLC (BARC.LN) is appointing long-time executive Joe McGrath to head its Americas division, the bank said.

Joe Gold, who will be replaced by Mr. McGrath as head of Barclays Americas, will now focus on his role as deputy chief executive of the British lender's corporate and investment banking division. Barclays is searching for a new executive to take the top job at that division.

In July new rules will force Barclays to house its U.S. business in a separately capitalised entity. Mr. McGrath will be tasked with ensuring the U.S. unit meets stress testing requirements. Mr. McGrath--who joined Barclays a decade ago--will also continue in his current role as co-head of banking.
