LONDON--Barclays PLC on Friday said it appointed John McFarlane,
chairman of U.K. insurer Aviva PLC, as its next chairman.
Mr. McFarlane will join the board on Jan. 1 and replace David
Walker as chairman at next year's annual general meeting, the bank
said.
He will step down from the boards of Aviva and FirstGroup PLC, a
transport operator where he is also chairman, next year.
Barclays shares traded two pence, or 1%, higher at 228 pence
shortly after the announcement.
Aviva said Adrian Montague would replace Mr. McFarlane as its
chairman.
