Boeing Co. said Thursday that its proposed deal with Iran Air involves the sale of 80 jets with a list price of $17.6 billion.

The company hadn't previously disclosed the size of the planned deal, but provided details in a letter to two lawmakers who had expressed concerns about the prospective sale, a copy of which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

Boeing this week said it had signed a tentative agreement to sell jetliners to Iran, in what would be one of the Islamic Republic's biggest deals with a U.S. manufacturer since trade sanctions on Tehran were eased.

Deliveries are due to run from next year until 2025, according to the letter, and Boeing said it also plans to help Iran Air lease an additional 27 of its 737 jets.

Boeing didn't identify the aircraft types involved in the 80-jet sale.
