BERLIN--A group of German schoolchildren booked on to
Germanwings flight 4U9525 are feared among the victims of the
crash, an official from the town of Haltern am See said on
Tuesday.
"We must fear that that's the case," said Hans-Josef Böing,
deputy mayor of the community of about 38,000 in the state of
North-Rhine Westphalia. Fourteen students and two teachers from the
Joseph König secondary school in Haltern am See had been on an
exchange program at a partner school in Spain, he said.
Mr. Böing said that city authorities had not received official
confirmation on the fate of the group, which was booked on to the
Germanwings flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf, but local
authorities are providing pastoral and psychological support to the
families of the pupils.
The Airbus A320 aircraft crashed in a remote part of the Alps in
southern France earlier on Tuesday. French President François
Hollande said that the conditions of the accident suggest there
were no survivors.
