DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Airbus Chief Executive Fabrice Bregier has accused archrival Boeing Co. (BA) of instigating a price war to drum up interest in its short-haul 737 Max airliner against Airbus' hit A320neo, German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported Sunday. Mr. Bergier accused Boeing of "desperately" trying to gain market share for its model, the newspaper said. "They are very aggressive when it comes to price," Mr. Bergier said, according to the newspaper. "If they had a superior plane, they wouldn't have to do that." He conceded that Boeing might win more orders this year than Airbus, which is striving for a 50% global market share, the newspaper said. He said that in the last 10 years, a unit of European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co. NV (EAD.FR), Airbus has nearly always held the lead, "but that can't always be so." He believes the superjumbo A380 will be a "long-term success" even if sales are lower this year than expected, the newspaper said.
