BRASILIA -(Dow Jones)- Brazilian Defense Minister Celso Amorim said Tuesday the government does not have a schedule for deciding on the purchase of fighter jets. Brazil's government has received bids from three companies--France's Dassault Aviation (AM.FR), Sweden's Saab (SAAB-B.SK) and Boeing Co. (BA) of the U.S.--for the contract to buy 36 fighter jets. A decision has been pending on the matter since 2008. "There's no foregone conclusion; nothing is decided," Amorim said after a press conference with U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. The government will look at price, quality and technology transfer proposals when it makes the decision, Amorim added. "We're looking for access to military technology, not a donation," Amorim said. The two countries want to increase cooperation between their militaries in many different areas, including cybersecurity, science and military technology and humanitarian assistance. "Brazil is a positive force for stability," not just in Latin America, but in the world, Panetta said. -By Jeffrey T.
