DOW JONES NEWSWIRES ArvinMeritor Inc. (ARM) said it plans to add 125 jobs by 2014 as it spends $23 million in the next five years to expand the technical center at its headquarters in Troy, Mich. The auto-parts supplier "is investing in a spectrum of advanced technologies that are focused on fuel efficiency, next-generation brake technology, suspensions and vehicle dynamics capabilities," said Chief Operating Officer Carsten Reinhardt. ArvinMeritor also has technicals centers in Italy, U.K., India, China, Mexico and Brazil. The company has received a state grant of $2.2 million, and Oakland County, Mich., has offered up to $1.6 million in training grants to help with the Troy project. In May, ArvinMeritor reported it swung to a fiscal second-quarter profit and joined a group of auto-parts makers beating expectations as sales surged with a recovering market. Auto sales are expected to rise in North America this year as companies tap new markets in Asia. ArvinMeritor's shares closed at $14.61 and were inactive after hours.
