SYDNEY--Australia's Wesfarmers Ltd. (WES.AU) said Wednesday it bought a 13.7% interest in oil and gas producer Quadrant Energy from Macquarie Group Ltd. (MQG.AU) for US$100 million.

Quadrant Energy holds assets in Western Australia state that Apache Corp. (APA) sold earlier this month to an equal joint venture between Macquarie and Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (BAM).

The Wesfarmers deal will reduce Macquarie's interest in Quadrant Energy to 36.3% from 50%.
