Finalists demonstrate ability to improve the
way people access and manage healthcare
QuiO, a digital healthcare company providing smart injection
devices and connected software for monitoring, engaging and
supporting patients taking injectable therapies, has been named the
inaugural Innovation Champion of the Accenture HealthTech
Innovation Challenge, which brings
together leading-edge startups with prominent health and life
sciences organizations to tackle some of the world’s greatest
healthcare challenges, including access, affordability and
transparency. The award was announced at the StartUp Health
Festival during the 35th Annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference
in San Francisco.
QuiO, based out of New York City, has developed a real-time,
wireless injection device and cloud platform for connected drug
delivery devices. The company’s Smartinjector device platform is a
fully-connected drug deliver solution, enabling remote monitoring
of dosing events and injection performance without syncing or
smartphone required. It’s Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant software includes secure web
dashboards for monitoring and supporting patient populations
remotely.
As part of Accenture’s HealthTech Innovation Challenge, more
than 500 startups from around the world demonstrated how their
innovative technology and business models help improve the way
people access and manage healthcare. Finalists presented to an
exclusive panel of 29 judges, comprised of senior executives from
globally recognized health and life sciences organizations. As well
as gaining access to these industry-leading companies as they seek
to bring their ideas to market, the start-ups gained an opportunity
to participate in StartUp Health’s Launchpad program.
“Being named Top Innovator at the Accenture HealthTech
Innovation Challenge is a great success for our team and validation
for our medical device product and our company,” said Alexander
Dahmani, chief executive officer and founder of QuiO. “The trust of
the HealthTech Innovation Challenge judges lets us know we are on
the right path to help lead the future of the healthcare
industry.”
CaptureProof was recognized as a Top Innovator at the Accenture
HealthTech Innovation Challenge. Based out of San Francisco,
CaptureProof provides a medical camera that aims to mitigate HIPAA
privacy risk by providing a visual narrative by putting photos,
videos, chat and sensor data directly in the hands of patients and
their doctors to better enable more efficient care, communications
and collaboration to monitor progress, assess in historical health
context and decide on optimal healthcare approach. Meghan Conroy,
chief executive officer and founder of CaptureProof said, “This
designation shows that healthcare is ripe for disruption, and we
are excited to be changing the face of healthcare.”
UE Life Sciences, Inc., also captured the Top Innovator
designation. UE Life Sciences, based out of Philadelphia, designs
and develops point-of-care, easy-to-use and affordable cancer
detection tools for use in the developing world. It has created the
iBreastExam, an FDA-approved, hand-held, battery powered, wireless
mHealth solution for early detection of breast lesions for use by
public and private health agencies. Matthew Campisi, chief
technology officer and cofounder of UE Life Sciences, said, “This
is more than just this designation, it’s about the future of
healthcare and the changing paradigm of how we think about treating
patients.”
“I would like to congratulate QuiO for being named the inaugural
Innovation Champion and to acknowledge all the start-ups that
submitted to the Accenture HealthTech Innovation Challenge for
their efforts to advance innovation in the industry,” said Anne
O’Riordan, senior managing director of Accenture Life Sciences and
co-author of Healthcare Disrupted. “The volume and quality of
submissions are proof of the level of invention in healthcare,
which can play a major role in improving the way people around the
world can manage their health and associated costs. The Accenture
HealthTech Innovation Challenge is a key part of our mission to
improve the lives of individuals and provide better outcomes for
healthcare providers.”
Brian Kalis, managing director of digital health at Accenture,
said, “The excellence and diversity of submissions received from
startups around the globe further demonstrate the momentum of
digital innovation in healthcare. Accenture is proud to help the
likes of [winning company], [Company B and Company C] infuse fresh
ideas through programs such as the HealthTech Innovation Challenge.
We look forward to working with these and other companies in the
future, continuing our role in facilitating open innovation between
