Accenture recruited 31 companies in two years, exceeding initial plan goals

Accenture (NYSE:ACN) has been awarded a one-year, strategy consulting contract to continue its successful outreach attracting foreign companies to Tokyo’s Special Zone for Asian Headquarters, helping spur the city’s economic growth and competitiveness. This is the third, consecutive contract award to Accenture for this work in the last two years.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) has a goal of attracting 50 foreign companies to locate their regional headquarters or research and development centers to the Special Zone by the end of March 2017. Accenture has successfully recruited 31 high value businesses hubs since 2013. Accenture Strategy will lead the continued effort to identify companies and their fit in the Special Zone, as well as support those incoming businesses as they establish bases there.

Major Pharmaceutical Company Successfully Recruited

Accenture successfully recruited Aspen Pharmacare, a major pharmaceutical company that brought its technology development business for the Japanese pharmaceutical market about two years ago. The company considered market size and business opportunities for foreign companies in Japan before deciding to locate in the Special Zone.

Aspen Pharmacare established a new entity, Aspen Japan, to develop formulation and tablet technology to meet the needs of Japanese patients and doctors. Aspen Japan also will improve the company’s research and development to include clinical testing, drug applications and post-market surveillance specific to Japan to serve as a business expansion hub for Asia.

“Aspen finds the Japanese market very attractive,” said Philippe Auvaro who leads Aspen Japan. “Japan is the world’s second largest pharmaceuticals market and business opportunity in the market is expanding even for foreign pharmaceutical companies. Accenture’s Business Consulting Service provided by the TMG helped us move to the Special Zone. Tokyo’s presence in the global pharmaceuticals market will undoubtedly grow through the various medical treatment initiatives in the Special Zone. We look forward to delivering quality products to patients in Japan from Tokyo.”

Hiroshi Goto, who leads Accenture’s Health & Public Service business in Japan, said the work for the Special Zone was important to the country’s economic growth.

“We are honored to continue recruiting foreign companies to Tokyo’s Special Zone for Asian Headquarters this year, and believe our successful performance over the past two years was a key consideration in the award of the contract,” Goto said. “This program is critically important not only to Tokyo, but to Japan’s competitiveness as well. We will leverage our strong industry knowledge and expertise to attract the most appropriate foreign companies.”

Accenture will continue to attract foreign companies that can contribute to Tokyo’s growth from a diverse range of industries, including environmental, healthcare, communications and digital marketing by conducting global recruiting activities focusing on Tokyo’s attractiveness for foreign investment, supporting further enhancement of Tokyo’s global competitiveness.
