I bailed out of CHS around $15 some time ago. The Boston Proper acquisition was botched so badly.

But under $5 this needs another look.

28¢ (22¢ after charges). DEBT on the balance sheet for the first time since I bought into this company. And they're incurring debt while buying back shares. Very disappointing...

Some form 4s filed last week. While the number of shares bought isn't terribly impressive, at least they are all acquisitions.

20¢ profit is below estimates but comparable store sales are flat to slightly higher. Not bad considering the liquidation of CWTR that took place this quarter.

August 27th for earnings and conference cal. Expecting a tough quarter because Coldwater Creek's liquidation will have put pressure on CHS's margins.

If there is a private buyout in the works, does CHS have to enter a "quiet" period?

Private equity buyout in the works?

Expect a tough second quarter as Coldwater Creek liquidates. CHS will have to compress margins to keep up store traffic. Once Coldwater stores are finally closed a direct competitor will be gone.

CHS down 4.5% on the news that Coldwater Creek is going to liquidate.

This is an opportunity to get in to CHS, as this will represent a huge boost to Chico's pricing power helping both the top line and bottom line.

Trying to figure out what caused yesterday's run right at the close of trading.

I'll have to listen later.

The conference call seemed more upbeat than the results, but CHS seems to be consistently under performing. CEO remained optimistic and said that sales in the first two weeks in February were strong. Who knows?????

4Q results look a little disappointing here. 4¢ per share excluding special charges, which if included produce a slight loss for the quarter.

Dividend remains at 7.5¢.

Earnings and Conference call will be on the morning of Feb. 27th. Looking for 16¢ per share.

New $300 million share re-purchase program following a 36% dividend increase.

While returning cash, CHS holds short term share price down. But the result will be that future earnings are divided among fewer shares. Management continues to focus on the long term.

Third quarter earnings are 22¢, at the low end of expectations.

CHS swings to a paper loss if you count the 40¢ write-down on the goodwill attributed to the Boston Proper acquisition, but no serious investor wants to see "goodwill" on the balance sheet anyway.

The company ends the quarter with an improved balance sheet and the dividend being raised 36%.

Wells Fargo downgrades CHS from Outperform to Market Perform. Specialty retailers just can't catch a break from the analysts.

Janney Capital lowers CHS to neutral from buy, and sets a $19 price target.

So the stock trades from $17.50 down to less than $16.50.

Next earnings due Aug. 28, expecting 33¢ per share.

Ouch, a miss on earnings. Only 32¢ per share which is flat with the 1Q of a year ago.

Bought back some shares at $17.85 that had been called at $18 last month.

A little disappointing on the top line. Sales "only" grew 15% over a year ago.

But still solid performance. 20¢ on the bottom line.

Dividend to go up by 4.8%, and a new share buy-back authorization of up to $300 million.

And we are about to open the first four Boston Proper brick and mortar stores.

Share price getting hammered before earnings again.

Earnings to be released before the open on Feb. 28th.

Another earnings beat for CHS:

For the third quarter, the Company reported net income of $41.7 million, an increase of 57.4% compared to net income of $26.5 million in last year's third quarter, and earnings per diluted share of $0.25, an increase of 56.3% compared to $0.16 per diluted share in last year's third quarter. Excluding non-recurring acquisition and integration costs related to the Boston Proper acquisition, the Company's third quarter earnings per diluted share were $0.25, an increase of 38.9% compared to $0.18 per diluted share in last year's third quarter.

But the author is making an error by giving equal weight to all of the categories discussed. Regarding the balance sheet numbers, Debt to Equity ratio of *Zero* combined with a Current Ratio greater than two is more important than some of the other categories like ROE which at 14.9% ain't all that bad.
