As the stock market index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei 225 is the most followed index of Asian stocks. It is calculated daily and reviewed once a year by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) newspaper using a price-weighted average. Equal weighting based on a par value of 50 Yen/share is given to stocks in the Nikkei 225 and certain events, such as stock splits, affect the weighting of stocks and the divisor. |
