Nikkei 225 Index

As the stock market index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei 225 is the most followed index of Asian stocks. It is calculated daily and reviewed once a year by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) newspaper using a price-weighted average. Equal weighting based on a par value of 50 Yen/share is given to stocks in the Nikkei 225 and certain events, such as stock splits, affect the weighting of stocks and the divisor.
