ALFRED MCALPINE SELECTED FOR #330M ROAD SCHEME
Alfred McAlpine plc, ("McAlpine") has today announced that it has been awarded a
major contract in joint venture with AMEC for the upgrade of a 39km stretch of
the A1 in North Yorkshire. The joint venture has been selected by the Highways
Agency as part of its Early Contractor Involvement Scheme.
The scheme provides for the improvement of approximately 39km of the A1 between
Dishforth and Barton in North Yorkshire. The project consists of the upgrading
of the existing dual two lane carriageway to a dual three lane motorway as well
as the provision of a single lane carriageway for local traffic along most of
the length of the motorway. McAlpine will design and construct major new
junctions at A61 Baldersby, Leeming and Catterick. The project also includes
alterations of existing junctions at Scotch Corner and Barton.
The contact has been awarded in two phases. Phase 1, which starts in March 2004
and ends in February 2007, includes the preliminary design process and promotion
of the scheme. Phase 2 will run from February 2007 to January 2016 and covers
the construction and completion period.
Ian Grice, Chief Executive of McAlpine commented,
" This is another example of our commitment to securing long-term contracts that
improve our visible earnings stream."
" We are very pleased to have been selected by the Highways Agency to be part of
the successful team to promote, design and construct this important road link in
Yorkshire. We are proud to be working on the scheme and are confident that it
will bring many benefits to the local community."
