HONG KONG (AFX) - CNOOC Ltd announced it has completed its appraisal of a
well in the western South China Sea which, during a drill stem test, registered
a flow of over 3,000 barrels of oil and 0.34 mln cubic feet of gas per day
through a 17.46 millimeter choke.
The appraisal well, called Weizhou 11-1N-2, has a total depth of 2,272
meters, and is situated 44 kilometers southwest of Weizhou Island, the company
said in a statement.
Zhang Guohua, senior vice-president at CNOOC, said its proximity to another
well makes the Weizhou well a "a very attractive discovery."
CNOOC owns 100 pct of the project.
