A recent HR research report conducted by Altimeter Group found that most marketing companies do not have strong strategies for employee engagement. After surveying nearly 115 B2B and B2C companies, only 40 percent said they had a healthy employment engagement strategy. While most marketers are known to be enthusiastic by nature, companies should still have a plan to spark employee interest and enhance morale.

Clay Darrohn, CEO and Big Tuna at fishbat, a leading Internet marketing company, says employee engagement is the key to maintaining a successful business. "Your employees should be your best promoters," he agrees. "However, most employees tend to get caught up in the work, and don't spend enough time participating in internal activities."

Darrohn says one of the best ways to boost employee engagement and corporate social responsibility is to integrate a social enterprise strategy. "Social enterprise business plans are a win-win for everyone: employees, clients, consumers, and the overall brand," he says. "Social enterprises are vehicles for social change. They are a way for businesses to solve social problems all year round, and ingrain the mission of social good into the core practices of the business. Take TOMS Shoes, for example. They are a shoe manufacturer that sells products to consumers. However, for each pair bought, another pair is sent overseas to someone in need."

He explains that employees are more likely to work harder for companies that emphasize the importance of social good. "Employees value and respect companies that generate profit or make continuous donations to relatable causes," he says. "It assures them that their time is spent helping others, instead of just fattening someone's wallet. Social enterprise business plans are a great way to boost employee engagement and morale."
