ecoATM Partners With Retired San Diego Chief of Police William Lansdowne to Strengthen Relationships With Law Enforcement

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 11, 2014) - ecoATM®, the nationwide network of automated electronics recycling kiosks, today announced a new partnership with former San Diego Chief of Police William Lansdowne. Chief Lansdowne will be a key contributor to ecoATM's ongoing commitment to consumer safety and awareness around cell phone and device security and assist ecoATM in building and strengthening relationships with law enforcement across the country. ecoATM is an Outerwall Inc. brand (NASDAQ: OUTR).

Chief Lansdowne recently retired after serving over 50 years in law enforcement as a nationally recognized leader in community policing, violence reduction and community oversight. Chief Lansdowne served as San Diego Chief of Police for 11 years, establishing a track record of consistent crime reduction. When Chief Lansdowne left his post, San Diego was ranked as the second safest large city in America.

"ecoATM was founded during my tenure as police chief in San Diego and I have always been impressed with the company's strong commitment to consumer safety and law enforcement cooperation," said Chief Lansdowne. "On a national level, ecoATM is inspiring participation in electronic recycling and its market-leading security features are setting the standard for public safety. I'm honored to extend my experience to ecoATM to help the company work even more effectively with law enforcement and public officials across the country."

Maria Stipp, president of ecoATM said, "Chief Lansdowne is intimately aware of the challenges that police departments face in terms of public safety. His support and counsel will be extremely valuable as ecoATM continues to work closely with law enforcement, regulators, policy leaders, elected officials and other stakeholders in developing the safest option for responsibly recycling used cell phones."

Chief Lansdowne began his highly decorated career in the San Jose, Calif., police department as a patrolman. He advanced to eventually become Chief of Police in Richmond, Calif., before returning to San Jose as Chief of Police. Under Lansdowne's leadership, San Jose was recognized as the safest large city in America for five years running. He moved to San Diego in 2003, where he retired after a successful tenure. Chief Lansdowne also has over 13 years of experience as a Major Cities Chief Police Board member and is a board member of the Police Executive Research Forum.

Chief Lansdowne will also complement ecoATM's directors of law enforcement relations: Max Santiago, former Deputy Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol, and Mike McCann, graduate of the FBI National Academy and retired chief of police.
