FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - ZymoGenetics Inc. said it has started a
Phase II/III study testing Atacicept, which it is developing with Germany's
Merck KGaA., as a treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
The two companies in December announced that they initiated a Phase II/III
clinical trial of Atacicept in lupus nephritis, a severe form of SLE.
The two studies are intended to support worldwide applications for marketing
authorization, ZymoGenetics said on Thursday.
Atacicept, previously known as TACI-Ig, is an experimental treatment for
autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
