The Japanese yen retreated from early highs against the other major currencies in the late Asian session on Wednesday.

The yen fell to an 8-day low of 178.42 against the pound and a 2-day low of 94.87 against the Canadian dollar, from early highs of 177.42 and 94.31, respectively.

Pulling away from near 2-week highs of 128.59 against the euro and 89.21 against the NZ dollar, the yen slipped to 129.44 and 89.60, respectively.

The yen edged down to 120.01 against the U.S. dollar, from an early 2-day high of 119.40.

Against the Swiss franc and the Australian dollar, the yen edged down to 123.76 and 91.65 from early highs of 123.17 and 91.15, respectively.

If the yen extends its downtrend, it is likely to find support around 181.18 against the pound, 96.16 against the loonie, 132.01 against the euro, 92.05 against the kiwi, 121.78 against the greenback, 128.00 against the franc and 94.00 against the aussie.
