NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Weyerhaeuser Co. Thursday said it is
exploring strategic alternatives for its Westwood Shipping Line unit, as well as
four regional short line railroads.
The four short line railroads are the DeQueen & Eastern, Columbia & Cowlitz,
MSV, and Golden Triangle railroads.
Weyerhaeuser primarily uses the short line railroads to source mills in
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Washington. In addition, some third-party
customers also use the lines for select transportation needs.
The company didn't say what the alternatives could be and didn't provide a
timetable for the process.
Westwood will continue full operations during the transition.
Shares of Weyerhaeuser closed Wednesday at $67.69.
